HOW YOU CAN GET A FREE STAY AT THE ATLANTIS BAHAMA HOW YOU CAN GET A FREE STAY AT THE ATLANTIS BAHAMAS PT 2! 🌴

You can also get free nights at the iconic Atlantis with @marriottbonvoy rewards points!

Getting a Marriott Bonvoy membership is free. If you are an @americanexpress platinum card holder, you can also link your accounts and achieve immediate status with Marriott Bonvoy. As with any rewards program, the higher your tier, the more “perks” you receive such as discounted rates, late checkouts, upgraded rooms, complimentary breakfasts etc.

While, in truth, my preferential accommodation is an eccentric boutique hotel or an independently owned & run Bed & Breakfast. Many scenarios have led to me staying at properties you can book through @marriottbonvoy or American Express Travel. As a result, I’ve received many free stays through rewards points or perks from both!

If you want to skip the hotel entirely, but still enjoy all the facilities and things to do at the resort, you can always dock your boat at a slip at the Atlantis marina. Depending on boat size, it’s still less per night than rooms at the Atlantis. It also comes with dockside luxury concierge services, Wi-Fi, 24/7 security, private on board catering, laundry & dry cleaning services. But, it’s BYOV (Bring your own Vessel 🤪).

I wouldn’t call me the points gal just yet (🤣), but I have become rather engrossed in travel rewards & points hacking. Because when you travel frequently it’s almost outrageous not to?!

What’s your favorite type of accommodation? 🧳

It’s the clear blue skies and transparent, glass It’s the clear blue skies and transparent, glassy waters for me! 🌊☀️

I have to say, the Bahamas has some of the bluest most picturesque skies I’ve seen. Where are some of the most beautiful skies you’ve seen?

A few people have asked me about the swimming pigs! Yes, in this archipelago pigs do, in fact, swim in the wild. You can find this activity on the islands of Exuma or Eleuthera. Exuma is about an hour boat ride from Nassau, Eleuthera is closer to about three. ⚓️

I was interested when I arrived… or perhaps more curious. However, when I found out it’s $400+ per person to boat out to see them for a short period, it was an immediate no for me. Since I could take that $ and fly to Malta, I filed that excursion under, “I could, but I won’t” and “when pigs fly” now let’s go grab a Sky Juice. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Although, I hear it is very fun! Have you ever seen them or know anyone who has? No one, locals included, seem to know how they got to the island…

Maybe next time I’m here, we’ll meet!

One Bahama Mama, please! 🍹🌴 Time for a bit One Bahama Mama, please! 🍹🌴

Time for a bit of travel transparency. A free stay brought me to the Bahamas (no, not sponsored). There are so many countries I want to visit, it initially didn’t top my list.

Why?

I perceived it as ultra commercialized, mega touristy and just like being in the US… except with better rum options.

And while my perceptions weren’t entirely unwarranted, after being here for a few days, I’ve truly enjoyed myself in every way.

I also took a deep dive into the rich, beautiful Bahamian culture (which was my favorite part), learned so much about their extensive history in the Caribbean and will now have to figure out how to make Guava Duff at home (it’s SO good!).

All in all, I am reminded of an important travel lesson: everywhere you go, bring an open mind and heart. In doing so, we are able to see what we can learn everywhere we wander and see what lies beneath the surface. 🌊

Have you been to the Bahamas? Is there anywhere you’ve visited that surprised you?

5 Facts About Me - TRAVEL Edition 🏜 Earlier th 5 Facts About Me - TRAVEL Edition 🏜

Earlier this year I was tagged by several of you lovelies in the “5 Facts” series in stories. I was traveling, so I figured I’d post it here.

1) I’m from California, born & raised. I’ve lived in both Los Angeles & San Francisco. I grew up very close to the ocean & spent lots of time in it as a kid & growing up which likely shaped my penchant for all things aquatic 🌊🌴

2) My favorite thing about travel is … connection. The connection I feel to the travel community. The connection that can be built with others while learning and celebrating other cultures. The connection we feel when we see photos of places we’ve created memories. How travel can connect human beings from all over the entire world. 🌎

3) I’ve traveled to all 6 Continents and have been planning a trip to Antarctica for some time now. Have you been? Are you interested in Antarctica? 🇦🇶

4) I love NYC and have visited during all four seasons. Winter is my favorite time to visit NYC (New Yorker friends… I know you’re giving me this look:😒😂)

5) I prefer to travel extremely light for a variety of reasons and ::never:: check a bag! Who else is on team #carryononly? 🧳

I’d love to know where your home town, city, state or country is? Where are you from? What is your dream bucket list destination you’ve yet to visit? (I know for most of us this list is quite long!) 🗺

Today completes another journey around the sun. He Today completes another journey around the sun. Here’s to many more rounds! ☀️

I am super excited, as tonight I will be GLAMPING with the 📍Navajo Nation in Monument Valley on their tribal lands. 🌵

All the proceeds of our stay go to support the Navajo tribes, directly.

This is actually my first time exploring Monument Valley, and it is truly breath taking in its own right. ✨

Thank you so much to my friends who have reached out, especially, most of all to my family who started my day so incredibly great and made me feel showered with love in many ways. If you messaged me, I mostly don’t have internet, so please know I appreciate it so much and will be back online soon! ☺️

As they say, the days are long, but the years are short.

I’m grateful to be here to see another sunrise 🌅
Off to go stargaze now…

Before departing 📍Medellín, Colombia, a visit Before departing 📍Medellín, Colombia, a visit was paid to Comuna 13. What was once proclaimed as “the most dangerous neighborhood in the world,” just a few decades ago, is now a vibrant, art filled locale. Teeming with lively energy & motorcycles, street vendors sell their crafts and food specialties, while children play joyfully in the parks past dusk.
.
The neighborhood has completely transformed. ✨
.
Travelers flock to the district to see the remarkable & vivid murals. Some, to witness first hand the evolution. Others, to encounter a different, unfeigned side of Medellín. Join me in my stories as I take you on a tour ✨
.

FYI: Be mindful when bringing up P.E. to locals. They don’t think very highly of him. In fact, the majority downright detest him for the loss & destruction caused.
.
Although, the story of Comuna 13 is not one I wish to oversimplify. I’ll hand it over to my Colombian friend and tour guide who lived through the 80’s in Medellín, a time rife with crime and brutality.
.
“We have a dark past here in Medellín. A really dark past. We wanted to change things. It took a couple generations… but we were determined to turn it all around.

And we did.”
.
Powerful, indeed. Comuna 13 is a must visit when in Medellín 🇨🇴

I really thought my days of sounding off on the in I really thought my days of sounding off on the internet were over…✨
.
I missed #internationalwomensday, but I’m going to run it back for a moment. It’s meant to celebrate the cultural, political and socioeconomic achievements of women - and I’m SO here for it! If you know me, you know how pro-woman I am. This day often brings an onset of posts of women exuding camaraderie & uplifting thoughts… which I love.
.
Then the very next day… I see sexist and misogynistic comments posted in someone’s story… posted by a woman.
.
Sometime before that, a woman made a comment that she doesn’t unfollow women she doesn’t like, she watches and hopes they fail. Sometime before that, a woman found time in their day to shame a woman in their stories for how they edit their photos of themselves. Blaming it on a lack of confidence. Well guess what? I’m sure your public criticism is most certainly helping with that…🤔
.
You see, this is the part we don’t talk about enough.
.
BEING A WOMAN CAN BE HARD ENOUGH. As I’ve said before, we are criticized and judged no matter what we do, often! We need to hold ourselves & the women around us accountable for bringing mess that the world simply DOES NOT NEED.
.
Away with the: “why her and not ME,” energy. The tearing down. The sabotage. The spreading of toxic gossip (about those one considers “friends,” no less!), competing over collaborating.
Comparison is the root of so many negative things.
.
✨To the single mom, who works hard just to make ends meet
✨ To the happily married woman who is an epic wife
✨ To the woman who chooses herself first and her career daily
✨To the single woman who is still finding herself
✨ To the woman who chose to have a family & be a mom above all
✨ To the woman who has chosen not to have children or cannot
✨ To the woman who is changing the world, killing her endeavors & living her dreams
✨ To the woman who is still struggling to find her place in the world
✨To the woman struggling with her self image
✨ To the confident Queen who loves to love herself out loud
✨To the woman who finds fulfillment in just being
.
You are all seen. We are all on different paths. All worthy. Valuable. All important.
On an island in the sun ☀️🎶 . I think I’v On an island in the sun ☀️🎶
.
I think I’ve found the deserted island I’d run away to… 🌴
.
Although 📍 Isla Grande is far from deserted, it’s the closest I’ve experienced to it… so far. 27 islands comprise the Rosario Island archipelago… and some of them ARE in fact uninhabited. This really is an idyllic place to experience the natural wonders of the Caribbean… in tranquility… that won’t break the bank.
.
On 📍Isla Grande you can book a completely private boat charter for a few hours for 350,000 COP or about $88 USD. It’s a great way to explore the archipelago by sea! It’s the nautical & tropical version of checking out a city by car or bus. Our captain cruised by some of the private islands in the “neighborhood,” which incidentally are available for rent, in case any if you are interested. 😁
.
The water here just blows my mind! During our boat voyage we stopped in an area where there are corals and of course, we had to hop out for a swim! The water is incredibly warm, but in lots of the immediate area around the islands, not super deep.. around two meters or just shy of 7ft.
.
I’m really curious, what’s your favorite tropical place you’ve ever been to?
