HAVE YOU EVER BEEN CAVE TUBING? 💦 Neither had HAVE YOU EVER BEEN CAVE TUBING? 💦

Neither had I. Until… this adventure I had never even been tubing. Can I just tell you this is one of the most FUN excursions I’ve ever been on?

After we left the 📍Xunantunich Mayan Ruins and a very brief drive, we arrived at the 📍Nohoch Che’en Archaeological Reserve, also called “Jaguar Paw.”

You’ll trek a bit over 35 minutes through the jungle, sometimes knee deep in water, to get to the river near the cave system.

It was during this journey that I first learned that Cashews (which grow wild throughout this area) are extremely poisonous until processed. Did you know that? 💡

Anywho, we put on helmets with a head light attached… plopped on the inner tubes and we were off! Our guide led us into the cave system, which, eventually went pitch black (but was not like that the whole time).

In case you’re wondering… WE WERE ALL TIED TOGETHER! Because, obviously a quick way to ruin a trip is for someone to float off in the dark down the wrong way and get lost.. especially in the areas that are extremely deep! 🤪

Like most cave systems, the spaces varied in size from large and cavernous to low ceilings with narrow walls. There are also bats that live there… but we didn’t see any 🦇

Our guide was incredible in providing an immaculate experience and extensive knowledge during our journey through the “Underworld,” as the caves were sacred spaces to the Mayans.

So… how are we feeling about this activity?

ADVENTURE TRAVELERS… THIS IS FOR YOU! 🗺 Nest ADVENTURE TRAVELERS… THIS IS FOR YOU! 🗺

Nestled in the 📍Cayo District of Belize, is the Xunantunich Archaelogical reserve. The Cayo district is known to be the “eco tourism & adventure region” of Belize. Surrounded by lush rainforests and rivers, you can venture to explore the Xunantunich Mayan ruins.

While there are a vast multitude of ancient Mayan sites spread out over many areas, this one is located just a bit over a 1/2 mile from the Guatemalan border. The area has been preserved so well, you feel transported. You’ll also enjoy the company of large Iguanas, Howler & Spider Monkeys. 🐒🦎

If you’re staying on one of the islands, it’s a bit of a journey to get here. COMING FROM AMBERGRIS CAYE:

🚤 90 minute boat ride to Belize City
🚐 2.5 Hour car ride through the Belizean countryside
🏞 The entire “Lost City” is atop a ridge above the Mopan River which surrounds it. To access the site, you must use a hand cranked draw bridge to cross the River (not everyday you do something like that, right?!)

LEGEND HAS IT: that Xunantunich (which means “Maiden of the Rock”) is haunted by a spirit coined as the “Stone Woman”… a woman wearing all white with bright red eyes. She has reportedly been seen by many people climbing the castle (“El Castillo”) stairs & disappearing into the stone walls. If you go, let me know if you have a sighting! 👀

In any case, this unique adventure is worth carving out time for when in Belize. Standing in the center of what was once a thriving city, a bustling epicenter of rich Mayan life is such a moment…

Do you feel comfortable visiting places that are said to be haunted? I love historical sites, and the two things seem to often go hand and hand…✨

DID YOU KNOW ABOUT THE DRIVE IN VOLCANO? 🌋 The DID YOU KNOW ABOUT THE DRIVE IN VOLCANO? 🌋

There’s only one in the world and it’s located in 📍Soufriere, Saint Lucia.

The Qualibou volcano is dormant, thankfully, as you will be walking right into the heart of it.

There are guides available on site, complimentary, just leave a nice gratuity! It’s a great way to learn more about the geothermal landscape.

Afterwards, you can pamper your skin and detox in the nearby Sulphur Springs. Enjoy a mud bath and needless to say, 🚫skip the white swimwear the day you go!

So, would you be in or out (literally)?

IS THIS DESTINATION ON YOUR LIST? ✨ When I chat IS THIS DESTINATION ON YOUR LIST? ✨

When I chat with people about Egypt… I kind of describe Cairo and Luxor as siblings. Both have wonderful attributes that make them interesting and worthwhile, but Cairo is DEFINITELY the crazy one. 😄

In contrast to Cairo’s bustling metropolis, Luxor is greener, quieter and much less densely populated (just over a million residents versus the 7 million+ in Cairo).

It used to be the capital of ancient Egypt and the city is now regarded as just one giant open air museum. I really loved exploring all the temples, the abundance of hieroglyphics and sailing the Nile on a felucca. Luxor is a history lovers dream!

Doesn’t all the history of ancient Egypt and their architectural feats fascinate you? ✨

SAILING A FELUCCA DOWN THE NILE RIVER ⛵️ The SAILING A FELUCCA DOWN THE NILE RIVER ⛵️

The weeks spent traveling through Egypt were some of my most raw, chaotic, unfiltered and magical travel experiences I’ve had to date.

📍Luxor, Egypt is a welcomed calm after a frenzied, yet memorable adventure in Cairo. When you visit Luxor, sailing a felucca down the Nile is a MUST - truly a bucket list moment.

I setup this private felucca charter for 200 Egyptian pounds, or roughly $12USD for a couple hours for the evening ✨

Have you been to Luxor? Is Egypt on your list? 🇪🇬
