If you’re a diver or are curious about experiencing a dive safari eco resort, you’ll definitely want to know more about this experience. Or, perhaps, you just find the idea of glamping in a remote part of the world and swimming with dolphins rather intriguing? I mean, why wouldn’t you find that idea enticing? Cue: Marsa Nakari – Red Sea Diving Safari. A place where you can do all of the above while disconnecting from your everyday… completely. By definition, an eco resort or hotel is one that makes “green” or environmentally sustainable operational choices. The goal is for an eco accommodation to have minimal impact on the environment. What makes Marsa Nakari unique, is that it is an ocean front diving village in addition to being an eco resort. While the village has several accommodations that are in actual structure, many of the accommodations are large tents. A form of camping involving accommodation and facilities more luxurious than those associated with traditional camping Although Marsa Alam isn’t too far from Luxor, it isn’t exactly close either. By vehicle, it’s roughly about a four and a half hour drive. For context, that’s similar to the drive from Los Angeles, California to Las Vegas, Nevada. Tip: You can take the bus from Luxor to Marsa Alam as well. Cost is somewhere in the range of $4 -$8 USD, which is much cheaper than a taxi or private vehicle with a driver. However, it will increase your transport time to over 12.5 hours. Since this is not your ‘typical’ accommodation, amenities will look a bit different here. If you’re staying in any of the water front glamping tents on the beach, there is one central bathroom and shower that everyone staying in the tents must use. For clarification, there is a separate bathroom for men and women, so technically two main bathrooms. I really thought it was going to be a pain trying to use the shower, but it actually wasn’t at all. It is a little trek from your tent to the bathroom, but nothing over the top. Since, most of the campers are also diving daily, they tend to shower at one of the numerous showers down by the dive center. There’s an on site restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Honestly, there would need to be, considering this is an eco resort in a fairly remote area. Additionally, there’s a tiny bodega shop where in between meals you can buy snacks, beverages and any other odds and ends you may need. There is security all throughout the eco resort. Particularly at night, there is security posted at all the entrances and main points of visibility. There is also security that drives throughout the property day and night, making sure everything is as it should be. I felt very safe the entire time. I was fairly surprised how spacious and comfortable our tent was. If you’re typically camping averse, this might be the type that you’re willing to swing. The waterfront tents at Marsa Nakari come equipped with two large bean bags for sitting, two beds, lamps, outlets and even a mini refrigerator. Honestly, there is nothing like going to sleep with the waves crashing ten feet from your tent. Similarly, waking up in the morning and being greeted with the seemingly never ending sea, sky and sunshine at your “doorstep” is a surreal experience as well. Surprisingly, the beds were so comfy. Despite being a warm climate during the day, at night, it can cool down quite a bit being right in front of the water. The pillows were soft and plush and the blankets were just warm enough. Cozy was an understatement. Dare I say, you might have the best nights sleep you’ve ever had being lulled to sleep by the ocean! Other than wanting to ‘be away from it all’ and have a serene beach glamping getaway, you’ll really want to go to Marsa Nakari if you enjoy ocean swimming, snorkeling or, especially, scuba diving. There are many different excursions, dive packages and lessons you can take. You can always book via the property in advance, or, you can decide what you want to do upon arrival. Activities run from the crack of dawn, until even after dark – for night diving. You’ll likely be so busy doing water activities that aside from meals, you’ll want to just rest and relax in your tent! This is one of the most unique places I’ve ever stayed and I would stay here again if I found myself in Egypt again. Have you ever stayed at an eco or dive resort before?
